Omacan works to improve the lives of the street children of Uganda. Founded by a group of good samaritans from Canada and the USA, Omacan is dedicated to providing access to water, food, shelter, and education for those in need. Through donations and fundraising efforts, Omacan has been able to make a lasting impact on the lives of many children in Uganda. Ben, our nighttime security guard, has been in protection services for many years. He ensures that Omacan and its residents are safe over night while most people are sleeping. Ben is a humble man who loves his job, and we’re blessed to have him on our team.
Denis, our head of security, has worked with many security companies in Uganda and brings his tremendous experience to OMACAN. He is responsible for the safety of the organization as a whole as well as of all the residents. He has a passion for working with street kids and the most needy in our poor communities.
Olivia is a young single mother with experience in hospitality. She is responsible for the care and nutrition of the residents and guests of OMACAN House. She also spends her time teaching the OMACAN kids about cleanliness, hygiene, and self-care. From preparing good food for the children to teaching them how to clean the house, Olivia's days are full making sure that the children are comfortable, clean, and cared for while they learn how to live in a home.
Fadison, has been an armed security guard for Ugandas top security firms for many years and is a master carpenter. He is responsible for Omacan 247 security operations, is grounds keeper, and is instructor on the Woodworking apprenticeship program. Fadison also acts as lead mentor for the animal and garden projects with the street children
A Street Child for 7 years, Kabunga has transformed his life with the support of OMACAN. He is responsible for identifying partner organizations as candidates for OMACAN support. He also is OMACAN's first driver and graduate of our driving skills program, is our OMACAN House leader, and is the first student for the Grasshopper Catching business program and the Local Chickens program.
Paul, an accountant by profession, is our general manager and an incredible humanitarian. He handles the day-to-day running of the organization and ensures that we are compliant with all the regulations governing us. He is also responsible for the finances of OMACAN in Uganda. He loves children and being able to help disadvantaged people. Paul has a giant heart and a faith that drives his life.
Nga is a small business woman and a proud Canadian, who immigrated to Canada as a Vietnamese Refugee. She understands well the ravages of war and is a difference maker for God. Nga, a powerful force for good for those in extreme poverty, fell in love with the orphan children of Masaka, Uganda.
Dave Welling is a 30-year high tech executive in Canada and Silicon Valley whose passion for youth and the extreme poor span more than a decade. Inspired by his mother, Donna, he volunteers with at-risk youths, street kids, and the extreme poor. He is an active donor, leader, and (as the team calls him) earth mover for the street kids of Nyendo and the extreme poor of Masaka, Uganda.
Mary, as she likes to say, works for God and has since the day she was born. She spent 15 years as a missionary in South America and has been on 7 mission trips to Uganda to help the extreme poor of the Masaka District.
Jack Snyder has been a builder for more than 30 years. He is a constant volunteer and donor to causes that aid the extreme poor as well as an active participant on humanitarian missions throughout the years.
Our American friend - a farmer for many years (she won't let us say how long) and humanitarian for longer than some of us have been alive. Lorraine Schaefer is a relentless donor to the poor around the world. Her love and kindness and life of charity inspire all of us. Lorraine organizes shipments of goods for the children of Masaka, Uganda, including thousands of shoes, dresses, and sani pads for Africa.
Donna Watkinson was a healthcare worker for more than 30 years in Northern Ontario. She volunteered relentlessly in her home community and around the world. It is her love, kindness, and ability to inspire hope for her fellow man that is honoured with the school in her name.
Bert Huys had nearly 50 years of experience farming in Southwestern Ontario and was an active world adventurer on mission trips around the world, donating and helping bring water, food, and support to the extreme poor. Bert had a huge heart for his fellow man.
Father Martin Johnson was a parish Priest and missionary for more than 50 years in South America and Africa. He was well known in Southwestern Ontario and around the world for his continuous and relentless work with the extreme poor.
